1. Introduction

Obsidian Financial Services Limited (“Obsidian”, “we”, “us”, “our”) uses cookies and similar technologies on this website (obsidianfs.co.uk). This Cookie Policy explains what cookies are, which ones we use, why we use them, and how you can control them.

This policy should be read alongside our Privacy Notice, which explains more generally how we collect, use, and protect personal data.

Obsidian Financial Services Limited is in the process of seeking authorisation and regulation by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA). No regulated financial advice or services are provided until authorisation is granted. This Cookie Policy applies to your use of our website regardless of that status.

3. What are cookies?

Cookies are small text files that a website places on your computer, phone, or other device when you visit it. They are widely used to make websites work, work more efficiently, and to provide information to the site owner.

Cookies may be:

  • Session cookies, which are deleted automatically when you close your browser.
  • Persistent cookies, which remain on your device for a set period, or until you delete them.
  • First-party cookies, set directly by obsidianfs.co.uk.
  • Third-party cookies, set by a service we use that isn’t us (for example, Google, which provides the reCAPTCHA service on our enquiry forms).

We also use the general term “cookies” in this policy to cover similar technologies, such as pixels, tags, and local storage, where relevant.

4. The categories of cookies we use

We group cookies into four categories, in line with standard UK guidance from the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO):

Strictly necessary cookies

These are essential for the website to function — for example, enabling secure areas of the site, remembering your cookie consent choices, or balancing load across our servers. The site cannot work properly without them. Because they are essential, we do not need your consent to use them, but we tell you about them here for transparency.

Functional cookies

These remember choices you make (such as language or region) to give you a more personalised experience. If you don’t allow these cookies, some features may not work as intended.

Performance and analytics cookies

These help us understand how visitors use our website — for example, which pages are visited most often — so we can improve the site’s content and performance. They collect information in an anonymous or aggregated form wherever possible.

Marketing and targeting cookies

These may be used to track visitors across websites, and to display advertising that is more relevant to you and your interests. We only set these with your consent.

5. Cookies used on this website

The table below sets out the cookies currently used on this website. We keep it under regular review and will update it whenever our use of cookies changes.

We do not use analytics, advertising or marketing cookies. The only cookie in use is set by Google reCAPTCHA, which protects our enquiry forms from spam and automated abuse. It is strictly necessary for the forms to operate securely, which is why we do not display a cookie consent banner (see Section 6).

Cookie name Category Purpose Provider Duration
_GRECAPTCHA Strictly necessary Distinguishes genuine visitors from automated software to protect our forms from spam and abuse Google (reCAPTCHA) 6 months

If we introduce any further cookies, such as website analytics, we will add them to this table and, where the law requires it, ask for your consent before they are set. Google’s use of reCAPTCHA data is governed by the Google Privacy Policy and Terms of Service.

6. How we obtain your consent

Where cookies are not strictly necessary, UK law (the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations, alongside UK GDPR) requires us to ask for your consent before we set them.

As explained in Section 5, the only cookie this website sets is strictly necessary, so we do not currently display a cookie consent banner. If we introduce cookies that require consent, we will put a consent mechanism in place before doing so, and will update this section to explain how it works and how you can change your choice at any time.

If you have any questions about this in the meantime, please contact us using the details in Section 10.

7. How to control cookies through your browser

Most browsers let you manage cookies directly. You can usually:

  • See what cookies are stored on your device and delete them individually or all at once.
  • Block third-party cookies.
  • Block cookies from particular sites.
  • Block all cookies from being set.
  • Delete all cookies when you close your browser.

Guidance for common browsers: Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Apple Safari, Microsoft Edge.

If you block or delete cookies, some parts of our website may not work as intended. In particular, blocking cookies from Google may prevent our enquiry forms from being submitted.

You can also opt out of some third-party advertising cookies through industry tools such as Your Online Choices (UK/EU) or by using Google’s Ad Settings.

8. How long do cookies last?

This depends on the individual cookie. Session cookies last only for the duration of your visit and are deleted when you close your browser. Persistent cookies remain on your device for the period set out in the table in Section 5, or until you delete them manually.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time, for example to reflect changes to the cookies we use or for legal or regulatory reasons. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
